Meet the Author

John is a licensed CPA who worked 32 years as a Fraud Auditor and Supervisor within the Treasury Department and Homeland Security. His responsibilities included audits and investigations that dealt with drug seizures, money laundering, smuggling, tax and duty evasion, and a variety of non- compliance cases, including airline user fees and Customs duty refund programs. On occasion, John appeared as an expert witness for the U.S. Attorney and helped to secure convictions on several high-profile criminal cases. He and the auditors in his branch received numerous awards and recognitions, including two Commissioner Citation Awards.

John wrote several articles that were published in Customs periodicals, including “Customs Today”. He was a requested speaker for various import groups and fortune 500 companies involved with international trade programs.

For over 17 years John has worked in Minnesota and Florida (and soon Colorado) as a women’s lacrosse official. To date, he has worked over 1,200 games, including youth, high school, and NCAA college games. John’s articles regarding lacrosse officiating have appeared in ALARC Running Magazine and U.S. Lacrosse Magazine. He is also a veteran of 37 marathons, and numerous half marathons and other race distances.

John’s wife of 41 years, Susan, is a Registered Nurse. After John’s retirement, they teamed up and worked together as a registrar and nurse for conducting flu shot clinics throughout Minnesota. They have 2 grown daughters: Sara has worked for over 14 years as an oncology nurse at Stanford University Hospital in Menlo Park, California. Christina (Chrissy) is a Marketing Director in Colorado for a large orthopedic group. Recently, Chrissy and her husband Tim blessed everyone’s life with the birth of their first child Oliver, to whom this book is dedicated.
